Where to go in Lees Summit this Spring

Warmer weather is finally here! Get out of the apartment and enjoy these five Lee’s Summit destinations perfect for spring.

Spring is here! March 20 is the official first day of spring and it couldn’t come soon enough. Thanks to the incessant snow and ice storms this past winter there were times when we thought spring would never get here! While we can’t totally rule out more snow this year, temperatures do seem to be rising and we can finally look forward to springtime activities in Lee’s Summit! Read on for some places to start.

1.       Downtown Lee’s Summit

Winner of the Great American Main Street Award, Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street is run by a nonprofit organization founded in 1989 to revitalize and celebrate all that is Lee’s Summit. It’s home to over 100 locally-owned businesses and hosts over 100 days of community events each year. From Fourth Fridays, to holiday-themed events, to simply supporting local small businesses, Downtown Lee’s Summit is the perfect place to visit this spring.

2.       Jackson County Parks

Beautiful year-round, the parks in and around Lee’s Summit are particularly wonderful as nature begins to wake up after a long winter. At 21,000 acres, the Jackson County Parks + Rec is the third largest county park system in the country. Have fun hiking the numerous trail systems, go offline for the day and go fishing or have a picnic, or enjoy sports from baseball or golf to horseback riding. Check out their website for more activities and events.

3.       Stonehaus Farms Vineyard & Winery

If nature isn’t really your “thing”, maybe Stonehaus Farms Vineyards & Winery is more for you! A family owned and operated business founded in 1996, Stonehaus Farms Winery brings the art of winemaking to Lee’s Summit. Check out their website for events or just stop in to taste some delicious local wine. They also have an art gallery in the tasting room and hold wine and paint classes every Wednesday!

4.       Unity Village

While it may be more known for picturesque weddings, Unity Village also offers many activities for the public to enjoy. Reserve a tee time at the golf course or stop by the book store for a good book and a specialty coffee drink. Free Wi-Fi and comfortable seating offer a place to relax and unwind, or take a stroll along the nature trail and enjoy the spring weather as the gardens begin to bloom.

5.       Farmer’s Market

Another reason to love Lee’s Summit in the spring is the reopening of the Farmer’s Market! Farmer’s markets are a fantastic way to enjoy seasonal, locally sourced produce while also supporting local farmers and small businesses. The Lee’s Summit Farmer’s Market is open 7 AM until sell-out Wednesdays and Saturdays from April through November. Stop by this year to up your meal prep and make friends with local farmers at the same time!
